So you've decided to submit to Google! Well done, this is the first step in getting your site recognized by the world leading search utility. This site will tell you just about everything you need to know and do in order to get listed as highly as possible when submitting to Google.
However, please note that this site is NOT affiliated with Google in any way or manner; all content is written by the author based on his own experience of submitting to Google and with Google ranking.
The first thing to understand is that Google works by using a ranking system. Every site Google finds on the web is given a rank that relates to the relevance of the sites content. In order to view the ranking of a site you will need to install the Google toolbar. This is a simple process and can be done quickly by going to Google Toolbar.
Once you have downloaded the toolbar and then visit a site from your browser, you will notice a small flood bar with the words Page Rank above it. If you hold your cursor over the flood bar, it will tell you the ranking mark this site has received. Marks are given out of ten. I.e. 4/10.
Please note: This ranking is not always a true reflection of the websites real ranking, it is merely an approximation of it. Even with that said, it is a handy tool that gives you a fair idea of how your site sits within Google.
Now you are ready to start optimizing your site for submission to Google. Use the menu on the left hand side of the screen to go through the various steps on optimizing your site to get the best possible ranking within Google. I have used the Celtic Wedding Rings website as an example to help show you how a site should be optimized.
Celtic-weddingrings.com has been up and running for just over a year now. The actual site optimization only began 6 months ago and the site has steadily risen through the ranking in Google for a highly competitive category. For the search term 'Celtic Wedding Rings', it is listed at number 1. - (11 July 2008)
